The Good

  • E-Clutch standard at $5,350 — Honda didn't charge extra for the clutchless-learning tech
  • 27.2" seat height makes this the most approachable beginner bike on sale
  • Gear indicator with "shift down" arrows — genuinely teaches new riders proper gear selection

The Bad

  • Acceleration is slow enough that the 40-80 pull felt like it lasted a minute
  • Noticeable vibration at highway speeds in both bars and foot pegs
  • Suspension is firmer than expected — road bumps transmit through more than on a cruiser

The Easiest Motorcycle on Sale

Honda put the E-Clutch on the CB650R to wide acclaim. That review is also on this leaderboard. But the CB650R is a $9k middleweight. The real argument for E-Clutch is putting it on the Rebel 300, Honda's entry-level cruiser, and pricing the whole thing at $5,350. That's what Honda did here. The 2026 Rebel 300 E-Clutch is designed for literally one rider: the person who's been afraid to learn clutch-and-shift.

Chase's honest read: "Honda made the Rebel 300, and by putting an E-Clutch on it, they put motorcycling in easy mode." This is the most beginner-friendly motorcycle on sale. Period.

Performance highlights

286cc single, 27 horsepower, 19 lb-ft of torque, 379 lb wet, 27.2" seat height. Throttle response scores 4, "super soft and predictable with zero snap." This is the gentlest power delivery on any leaderboard bike. It's intentional, new riders can't accidentally throttle-out on a Rebel 300.

Acceleration earns 2. The 40-80 pull was brutal. Chase called it "possibly the longest 40 to 80 that actually got to 80." Full-throttle through third, fourth, fifth, sixth. The bike gets there. Just slowly.

Agility is 5. 379 lb is light, but the long cruiser wheelbase slows direction changes. Chase expected flickable and got sluggish.

Brakes rate 4. Adequate stopping power without confidence-inspiring bite. Honda's choice. New riders don't need aggressive brakes.

Suspension is 5. Firmer than expected for a cruiser, which catches Chase off-guard. A lighter rider (this bike is sprung for ~170-lb riders) would find it plusher.

Rider experience & tech

Comfort is 6. 27.2" seat, the lowest on the leaderboard, is perfect for shorter riders, cramped for riders 6'+. Upright body position, pegs slightly forward but not fully forward-controls. Highway vibration is the main fatigue factor.

Tech scores 6. E-Clutch is the headline feature, dashboard also includes a gear indicator with "shift down" arrows when you're in the wrong gear for your speed. That's Honda's explicit beginner-training touch, and it's clever.

Ease of use is the 9 that defines this bike. Low seat height, light weight, gentle power, E-Clutch, visual gear feedback. "This is one of the easiest motorcycles to ride on the market." Only a Honda Trail 125 or a scooter scores higher.

Versatility is 6. City commute: the mission. Highway short stretches: survivable. Canyon: not the bike's purpose. Touring: no. Fun-for-the-money is 6. $5,350 for a Honda with E-Clutch is honest value.

The Chase Score & final thoughts

With a Chase Score of 53/100, Meh Tier, the Rebel 300 E-Clutch is designed around one specific rider profile, and absolutely nails it. 20 ride points + 33 usability points = the exact score balance you'd expect from a beginner-focused bike.

Buy it if you're a new rider with clutch anxiety, a shorter rider who can't flat-foot taller cruisers, or a city commuter in stop-and-go traffic. Skip it if you want any kind of performance, highway capability, or thrill factor. Chase's close: "This bike is not a bike for me, but I feel like this bike is a pinpoint perfect motorcycle for a few different styles of riders." Exactly right. The Rebel 300 E-Clutch is the answer to a specific question, and it answers it perfectly.
